VLC Media Player Overview The VideoLAN project aims to stream MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and DivX media, DVDs, digital satellite channels, digital terrestrial channels and live videos over high-bandwidth IPv4 or IPv6 networks in unicast or multicast mode on multiple operating systems. VideoLAN also offers a cross-platform VLC media player that can be used to read a stream from the network or display video read locally on a computer on all versions of GNU/Linux, all versions of BSD, Windows, Mac OS X, BeOS, Solaris, QNX, Familiar Linux. VideoLAN is free software that is released under the GNU General Public License. It started as a student project at the French university A‰cole Centrale Paris, but is now a worldwide project with developers from 20 countries.
